Over 30 years in the making, the guitar is immediately distinct for its unique "Petal Grip," a feature Vai explains below:
“The petals signify the bond that two people have when they resonate together, and this is represented in the art of the guitar," Vai said in a press release. "The petals are also reminiscent of the Yin and Yang sign which is thought of as complementary (rather than opposing) forces that interact to form a dynamic system in which the whole is greater than the assembled parts.
"The petals are also the most beautiful and attractive part of a flower and intended to signify a message of unity and companionship. It is the ethos that guided the artistic design of the guitar.”
The PIA model features an alder body, a five-piece maple/walnut neck and a rosewood fretboard inlayed with an original design called the “PIA Blossom,” envisioned and designed specifically for this model.
Sonically, the guitar features new, custom-designed DiMarzio pickups - in the neck, middle and bridge - with a striking engraving pattern on the covers. It's available in a Stallion White finish, with limited Envy Green, Panther Pink and Sun Dew Gold finishes also available.
